My God It’s Full of Fries: 2001 Themed Children’s Menu from 1968

Sometimes wile surfing the Web you come across something that makes you just say, huh? I never really pictured 2001: A Space Odyssey as a children’s film but apparently in 1968 Howard Johnson’s did. I guess they had to capitalize somehow on the product placement in space. So, a children’s menu. Huh.

Special thanks to Dreams of Space for compiling this and for pointing out the stereotyping at the end where the boy wants to be a space pilot and the girl a space stewardess. After I first saw 2001: A Space Odyssey I wasn’t thinking about being either of those things. I was thinking I would like to move to San Francisco and become a psychedelic artist. But, I guess the trippy time tunnel endings had a different effect on kids in 1968.

Oh, and just in case you were wondering, here’s a still from the film.
