Halloween: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
October has arrived – the most wonderful time of the year.
There is a nip in the air, the leaves are changing and the smell of pumpkin pie surrounds us. It’s time to wear flannel as you walk a corn maze then curl up by a fire as the sun goes down early. A time to eat caramel apples, drink apple cider, and…well anything apple-related really. And the gourds – my god, so many gourds.
Also, it is a time for horror. A time for a good scare. You have to love a month that ends with a celebration of death and the macabre.
As you can tell we are a big fan of October here at DaddyElk Productions and Halloween in general. Halloween of course is the greatest of all the holidays. Yes, I said it the greatest – even better than that one in December that everyone bangs on about. How can you compare presents under a tree to the joy of bags of candy distributed by strangers? The proliferation of skeletons and ghosts, witches and black cats, undead monsters, and shape-shifting creatures are way better than a fat man in a red suit. What other time of year is it socially acceptable to dress as your favorite fictional character (or a sexy variation thereof) and parade around the streets on your way to a haunted house run by drunk high school students with a strobe light.
It truly is a time of wonder – god bless us, everyone.
So to celebrate our favorite time of the year the sites in the DaddyElk family will be providing a plethora of classic horror movie reviews, Halloween-related nostalgia, and other related creepy crawly odds and ends.
A rough breakdown of what to expect:
Tachyon Emissions: there will be posts on old horror or horror-related movies mostly from the 70s and early 80s because that’s the stuff we really like, and who knows maybe a classic from the 30s as well.
Paul Matthew Carr: Here we will be diving into nostalgia; old TV shows and memories of Halloweens past.
David Hicks: David will be providing one of his long, deep dives into memory and family.
Nexus of All Realities: New episodes coming (I promise).
The Collected Edition: A band new horror episode to be released on or around Halloween. Plus some past horror-related episodes re-released for good measure.
Also…if we actually get our stuff in order… a new podcast! Details to come.
So we here at DaddyElk Productions are very excited to share our thoughts and feelings on a really fun time of year. Hope you come back to check it out.
